Regina and Llewellyn’s wedding is one of the most beautiful weddings that we’ve featured on the site. The couple look absolutely stunning, happy and in love. This is without a doubt a celebration of love and we are happy to share their love story with you all. We truly hope you are as inspired as we are!
I knew my husband as a teenager growing up in Sierra Leone. We went attended the same school and we were friends. However when the Sierra Leonean war happened in 1997, I moved to the United States with my family and he moved to Gambia.
The Re-union: I was in my fourth year of medical school when I met him at a dinner party in Washington DC. At the time, he had graduated from Howard University in DC and was working in the area. We were so happy to see each other. Long lost friends. We kept in touch via email and Facebook and starting dating approximately 6 months after that initial meeting. We’ve been together ever since.
The Proposal: Llew proposed on Sat, June 10th 2012. I had gone to bed early because I had a 6:00 am shift in the hospital the next morning. He came over to my place around 11:00 pm and asked me to take a walk with him. He brought me flowers but I didn’t think anything of it at the time because he always buys me flowers. On our walk, he started reminiscing about our relationship and how lucky and blessed he felt to be with me. He got down on one knee and proposed exactly at midnight. I was speechless. My response was “what do you think?” What I didn’t know was that he had driven for 6 hours to Ohio that morning and spent the day with my parents and siblings, asking for my hand in marriage. He drove back that evening to ask for my hand in marriage. The rest, as they say is history.
Chosing The Wedding Colours: I’ve always loved turquoise. It’s one of those colours that make me smile. I chose peach because it gives it a beautiful summer look. I accented with gold. I really wanted my wedding to have a beautiful summer, earthy feel. It worked out great.
